Athletes from Astana took the first team place following the results of the 6th National Sports Games for the prizes of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, the official website of the capital akimat reports with reference to the Department of Culture and Sports.

Competitions are held in Kazakhstan once in 4 years and collect the strongest athletes from all over the country. The current National Sports Games were held in Aktau from September 21 to 25. More than 2500 athletes from all regions in 13 sports took part in them.

- In the team championship team of the capital took the highest step of the podium, ahead of the athletes of Almaty and Shymkent. Thus, Astana showed the highest level of training and rightfully won the status of not only the financial and cultural center of Kazakhstan, but also became the sports capital of the country. This is a great achievement and pride for us, - said the head of the department of culture and sports of Astana city, Bolat Mazhagulov.

As part of the team of Astana, 113 people participated in the games. The best result was shown by the teams in orienteering, running and the national game asyk at among men. The second place was taken by the women's team in the bes bes game, the third - the team in weight-lifting. According to the results of the competition, the second place is in the Almaty team, in third place is the team from Shymkent.

It should be noted that the National Sports Games are complex competitions that are held in the republic once every four years. In 2014, the games were held in Ust-Kamenogorsk, then athletes from Astana took the 7th team place.
