Over the weekend in the capital was the first eSports tournament Astana Atrium Games. The competition was represented by a large-scale playing area. According to the official website of capital akimat, in total, more than 100 students and schoolchildren took part in it.
Astana Atrium Games is a new event for our city, where e – sports and geek culture are intertwined. The tournament is organized for young people, but the unique atmosphere attracted both children and their parents. The e-sports event Astana Atrium Games was presented by a large-scale gaming zone. Everyone had the opportunity to play on special gaming computers. There were also tournaments in various disciplines-Dota2, CS:GO, Hearthstone, FIFA and Mortal Combat. In total, 32 people took part in each zone. The teams were determined by drawing lots. The choice of these cyber disciplines is due to the increased interest of today's youth in virtual battles.
«This is a new direction in the development of eSports for our University. We are holding it for the first time and hope that this event will become an annual tournament among e-athletes from all over Kazakhstan. Most importantly, we give impetus to the study of new and interesting. At the same time, children, schoolchildren and students learn digital opportunities and English in this way. As a result, we break stereotypes that games are bad. After all, technology and tournaments provide great opportunities for the development of our children», – said Vice-President for student Affairs and international cooperation of Nazarbayev University Kadisha Dairova.
It should be noted that at the Astana Atrium Games event it was possible to immerse into the geek culture thanks to the costumed show, as well as to take part in quests and competitions. The organizers promise that such tournaments will be held in 9 cities of Kazakhstan in the near future.
