Exoskeleton for rehabilitation after a stroke was invented by a group of capital scientists
According to the official website of capital akimat, group of scientists from Nazarbayev University has developed the first exoskeleton for the rehabilitation of patients after a stroke of varying degrees of complexity.
The developed robots are designed for the rehabilitation of stroke survivors under the supervision of physiotherapists. An intelligent control system that uses a computer interface of the brain, helps in the implementation of various schemes of rehabilitation treatment.
Graphical user interfaces provide increased patient engagement and contribution during treatment and accelerate recovery. The correctness of the training program will be controlled by the motion tracking system.
«The development of the project was prompted by the situation with common diseases, such as stroke, which is in the first row of diseases in Kazakhstan. We analyzed it. They began to publish theoretical publications, and then went to a startup. The project is that we read the signals of the brain with a special helmet, then the signals are transmitted to the exoskeleton (robotic arm-prosthesis). Forces thoughts the patient is able to control the hand. Thus, it is an opportunity for effective rehabilitation after a stroke of complete or partial paralysis of the hand. With the help of a prosthetic arm, the patient can do all the recommended exercises and undergo an effective rehabilitation course», - the author and the project manager notes relive.kz, member of the development team of Nazarbayev University Beibit Abdikenov.
The developers plan to introduce an intelligent system based on research institutes and hospitals by 2020. Further, a group of scientists will improve the development on the recommendations of professors and technicians.
«In the near future we will develop a special mobile application, on the basis of which the rehabilitation of patients will be carried out. Now ectoskeleton signals are read by transmitting signals via the bluetooth signal to a laptop,» – said B. Abdikanov.
