Mayor of Nur-Sultan reports progress on the green belt
This year, almost 330 thousand deciduous and coniferous nurslings and more than 3 thousand seedlings will be planted in the green belt of the capital. Altay Kulginov, mayor of Nur-Sultan, informed his Instagram followers about that, the official website of the mayor's office reports.
"The green belt of the capital can be called the city's lungs. The forest ring establishment was stipulated by the resolution of the State Commission in January 1996 initiated by Yelbasy. The green belt has grown significantly in size by today, and thousands of trees and shrubs are planted annually. The green belt contributes to both substantial improvement of the city's environment and mitigation of climate conditions. In total, we will plant almost 330 thousand deciduous and coniferous nurslings and more than 3 thousand seedlings this year. Current total vegetation across the territory covers over 10.2 million trees and 1.8 million shrubs (currant, bird cherry, honeysuckle and dogwood).
This spring, the reconstruction of the road and path network of the green belt was launched. Works are underway on arranging outdoor activity facilities - areas for skateboarding, roller skating (and winter skating); hiking and cross-country paths will be laid. We will also install children's playgrounds, football and tennis courts.
The green belt is home to hares, korsaks, foxes, partridges, pheasants, etc. We work on the expansion and reconstruction of the pheasant yard to increase the population of the birds.
We are finalizing the construction of an equestrian sports complex with equine therapy facilities on the premises of the existing racetrack near the green belt. Qualified personnel will be involved in the rehabilitation of children with special needs.
The racetrack base will also be developed for the following activities: national and classic sports games and trainings, and tourist routes as horse riding will be promoted in this area. A bike path was paved from the racetrack to the Urker (Ilinka) residential area; now, we are building a rental base for bicycles and winter sports tools like skis, for instance. We will complete it by the end of the year.
We pay attention to landscaping in all districts of the capital. In total, we will plant up to 30 thousand trees this year. When arranging courtyards, parks, squares and boulevards, we plant shrubs and seedlings that need further care. To prevent the plants from drying out, we have revamped the irrigation system from 20% to 90% starting this spring.
In his Address to the People, the President prioritized the task of developing the culture of eco-tourism in a robust manner. Addressing this priority, we work on creating ecoparks in the capital, which will become places of attraction along with other green areas of the city that have already become popular with metropolitans and visitors," wrote Altay Kulginov.
