More than 10 HIV-infected women gave birth to healthy children in Astana
According to the official website of capital akimat, Kazakhstan participates in the world campaign against AIDS under the motto «Know your status», within the framework of which a month of struggle against the disease is held in the capital.
Specialists Of the center for prevention and control of AIDS remind that knowledge of the HIV status allows to prevent transmission of the disease from the infected mother to the child during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. Therefore, it is very important for all pregnant women to be tested twice for HIV.
«To date, more than 10 HIV-positive women have given birth to three healthy children, thanks to timely treatment, compliance with the regime, diet», - said Sabit Abdraimov, chief physician of the AIDS prevention and control Center.
He cited the example of a patient who is 16 years old registered in the center, and during this time gave birth to two healthy children.
«I live with HIV for 16 years. Today I am happy, I live a full life due to the fact that I learned my HIV status in a timely manner. I am a mother of two healthy children. Treatment helped me not to transmit the virus to children», - says the patient of the center.
