Free vaccination against measles in Astana
According to the official website of capital akimat, in the city there is a sufficient number (25 thousand) doses of vaccine for routine immunization of children in 1 year, 6 years, as well as for vaccination of unvaccinated persons who have been in contact with a patient with measles.
Since the beginning of the year, 19,144 children have been vaccinated against measles in the city for the first time, i.e. 83.3% and 15,220 children, i.e. 78.6% of the target group, have been vaccinated at the age of 6.
At a briefing in the CCS, the head of the public health Department of Astana Sadvakas Baigabulov noted that vaccination is the only effective measure to prevent measles.
"The seasonal increase in measles incidence has started in Astana. Measles is a viral infection transmitted by airborne droplets from a sick person. In the epidemiological process in 90% of sick children are not immunized until 1 year of life and range in age from 1 year to 6 years, pregnant women. Measles is dangerous with complications such as otitis media, pneumonia, encephalitis",- Baigabulov said.
The main symptoms and signs of measles: high temperature – 38-40 degrees lasting from 4 to 7 days, weakness, loss of appetite, signs of SARS in the form of a runny nose, cough, red eyes and lacrimation, gradual rash on the skin, first on the forehead, then behind the ears and then throughout the body.
"Vaccination is free. Preventive vaccination against measles is carried out in children aged 1 year and 6 years, as well as epidemiological indications in the first 72 hours from the moment of contact under the age of 30 years. In the case of suspected measles disease should seek immediate medical attention in infectious diseases hospitals of the city. Meanwhile, according to the Department of public health, in November 2018, 38 suspicious cases of measles were recorded in Astana, 20 of them were children who were not vaccinated before the age of one year; 8 – from 1 to 6 years; 5 cases when parents refused vaccination, and 2 cases are now being clarified.
Currently, 35 children are being treated at the children's infectious diseases hospital. The condition is satisfactory. Three children discharged. In 15 laboratory confirmed the diagnosis of "measles". In areas of contact vaccinations were covered by 37 people.
