History of the capital’s airport has its origins in 1930, when a small airport with a field for takeoffs and landings of airplanes and an 8-room building with a small hall was built in the territory of the city of Aqmola.

In the period from 2002 to 2005, a large-scale project for reconstruction of the airport and its transformation into the International Airport of the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been implemented. Currently, Astana International Airport has a category of the International Association of Civil Aviation - IIIA, and accepts and serves all types of aircraft without limitations for take-off weight - IL-76, AN-124, B747-400F.

According to recent data, 19 local and international airlines with direct flights to 27 destinations perform their flights to Astana airport: Moscow, Tashkent, Kiev, Minsk, Tbilisi, Bishkek, Baku, Kazan, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Vienna, Abu - Dhabi, Dubai, Istanbul, Beijing, Antalya, Urumqi, Sharjah, London, Seoul, Paris

Trains from all major cities of Kazakhstan and the largest cities of neighboring countries arrive at the International Railway Station of the capital. You can get to Almaty, Shymkent, Aqtobe, Karaganda, Moscow, Tashkent, Kiev, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Urumqi and other locations from Astana by train. Tickets can be purchased from ticket offices of the station, sales points around the city, as well as through a dedicated online service of Kazakhstan TemirZholy company.

In addition to regular trains, there are also "Talgo" Spanish high-speed trains departing from Astana, which allow saving up to 50% of the travel time. Currently, high-speed trains run in three directions: Almaty, Aqtobe and Petropavl. In the nearest future it is planned to open new high-speed routes to Kyzylorda and Oskemen.

The bus terminal started its work 8 years prior to transfer of the capital to the former Aqmola, or even Tselinograd back then in 1989. In the period from 2009 to 2013 a large-scale renovation has been carried out: the facade and interior of the passenger hub have been transformed and changed.

Along with the transformation of the building, workflow technologies have been also updated. Now Astana Bus Terminal does not only sell tickets for intercity routes, but also provides a full range of services to travelers. There are lounges, shops, hairdressers, exchange offices, pharmacies and newsstands. Tickets purchasing  opportunities have been also expanded, and now you can buy tickets online, or using POS-terminals.

Daily Astana Bus Terminal receives passengers arriving from cities and settlements of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries. Buses run to Almaty, Aqtobe, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Semei, Shymkent, Omsk, Bishkek, Barnaul, Yekaterinburg and other locations. The detailed schedule is available on the website of the bus terminal.
